Sejong City
Sejong City (세종특별자치시) - named in honor of King Sejong the Great of the Joseon/Chosun Dynasty, and located approximately 70 miles south of Seoul, Sejong City was founded in 2007 and is still undergoing development as the newly-proposed/planned capital of South Korea. Although the subject of political partisan disputes, upon its anticipated completion in 2030, Sejong City is to serve as the nation's new capital. As of 2014, it has been reported that 36 central government offices, including nine ministries, have moved to Sejong City; however, Seoul currently still remains as the home of many other government agencies. It has been reported that Sejong City is projected to promote the nation's effort for more balanced regional development and investment while helping to decongest Seoul.
